Matthew Christopher Murray''s Abandoned America Presentation
"the end is only the beginning"

Thursday August 4th at 6:30 PM

The Harrisburg Camera Club (HCC) in collaboration with the Susquehanna Art Museum (SAM) and The State Museum of Pennsylvania (SMOP) proudly present photographer Matthew Christopher Murray to speak about his work on the Abandoned America project. This is the first lecture in what hopes to be a joint lecture series between the HCC, SAM and the State Museum inspired by the Doshi exhibition Latent Images at the Doshi Gallery on the second floor of the State Museum.

On Thursday August 4, 2011 at 6:30 PM, photographer Matthew Christopher Murray, a central Pennsylvania native will present a lecture and digital slide show presentation in the auditorium of the State Museum. The doors will open at 6:00 and the presentation will start around 6:45 after opening remarks. The State Museums physical address is the 700 block of North 3rd Street in Harrisburg, PA at the corner of North St and North 3rd St. There is free parking surrounding the Museum.

Matthew Christopher Murray''s presentation is based on "the end is only the beginning". Mr. Murray has spent the last six years immersed in his quest to find the quiet soul and beauty in abandoned buildings and architecture. His photographs range from New England through the Mid-Atlantic states and to the Rust Belt of America. He has documented the mesmerizing beauty and lost history within these structures. He captures the bold and muted colors of industrial plants, mental institutions, hospitals, schools, houses of worship, asylums, steel and power plants, prisons and military facilities. Matthew C. is currently enrolled at the Rochester Institute of Technology working towards his Masters degree in Fine Art Photography. He has self-published two books through Blurb, has been a featured speaker at various organizations and has also exhibited his work at various galleries in Central PA, New York City and on the East Coast. His work can be found on his website: www.abandonedamerica.us.

The doors will open at 6:00. We hope to start the Murray lecture around 6:45 after various announcements and platitudes. Admission is $10.00 for the general public, $5.00 for HCC, SAM and SMOP members. Students are $5:00 with ID. After the presentation Matthew will sign books and meet and greet the public outside the auditorium.
