the point of disconnection

There is a kind of aching in a place like this, a failure to maintain our end of an unspoken deal between lowly mortals and that which is holy and divine. Even if one shrugs off organized religion and its myriad of rituals and symbols, even if one denies the existence of a higher power, there is still something compelling about the loss of faith and hope that they represent to those who worship there. An abandoned church is a place of connection that is severed - and even if that is an illusion, it is still a terribly painful one to lose.
