Church of the Transfiguration | it was good that they were here

"The church of the Transfiguration stands as a monument to those parishioners who worshipped in it when it was a wooden frame chapel, when it was a small chapel on the first floor of the parish school and when it became the magnificent edifice we have today. It stands as a monument to all of the priests who have labored to serve the needs of the people. It stands as a monument to the pastor who laid the foundation for it but never saw it -- Father MacAran. It stands as a monument to the pastor who built it -- Father McGettigan. And it stands as a monument to the pastor who maintained it so well -- Father Kavanagh. It stands as a monument to them not so much because of what it is but who it represents -- Jesus Christ whom all of them have labored to love and serve in it and through it.
This brief history does not do justice to the greatness of the parish nevertheless I dedicate it to all of its people especially its three pastors. Yes Lord it is truly fitting and just that we give them praise because throughout their lives they praised you so well in all they did.
Lord it was good that they were here.*"
